Seeking an attorney to join our legal staff as Associate General Counsel. In this role, you will provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of matters related to the Multifamily Division’s business with a particular emphasis on asset resolution, loan workouts and fraud matters. We are seeking an attorney with a background in commercial real estate finance to work in a vibrant and collaborative environment.Our ImpactMultifamily Law is critical to the Multifamily Division’s success in carrying out its important work supporting the nation’s rental housing market. We accomplish this through a broad range of legal work, including loan production and underwriting, structured transactions, loan securitization, and asset management and operations matters.Your ImpactAsset Resolution & Fraud MattersServe as legal counsel to assess and advise Freddie Mac’s multifamily business on a range of asset resolution (e.g., workouts) and fraud-related matters. This may include:Advising on asset resolution actions and/or enforcement in connection with distressed assets (e.g., reviewing the operative loan documents and/or the Multifamily Seller/Servicer Guide, and advising on our rights and remedies)Negotiating asset resolution arrangements (e.g., workouts) and preparing related documentationDrafting and negotiating documents related to the management and sale of REO propertiesAdvising the business teams on investigations of suspicious activity and fraud mattersAdvising (working with compliance and other legal teams) on regulatory reporting regarding suspicious activity and fraud mattersAdvising (working with the regulatory, government affairs and communications teams) on responses to congressional, regulatory and other inquiries regarding suspicious activity, fraud and distressed asset mattersCommunication and CollaborationDrafting and delivering well-structured, complete and concise correspondence, legal analyses and documents for internal and external purposesCollaborating with peers to ensure consistency of legal advice and negotiating positionsCreating and maintaining effective relationships with business clients, lenders, servicers, and counsel for lenders / servicersQualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degreeMembership in good standing in a state BarAt least 7 years of legal experience with a law firm or corporate law department in commercial and/or multifamily real estate finance transactions including:Experience with distressed commercial assets, including workouts, foreclosures, receiverships and other dispositions Enforcement of rights and remedies related to such transactions, andinvestigation of suspicious activity and fraud matters related to such transactionsExpertise in handling complex affordable deals and deep real estate knowledgeStrong legal analytical, writing and communication skills.Keys to Success in this RoleSuperior oral and written communications skillsAbility to work comfortably and routinely as part of a team and to collaborate across organizational boundariesAbility to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients and customersAbility to organize and prioritize multiple time-sensitive mattersCurrent Freddie Mac employees please apply through the internal career site.We consider all applicants for all positions without regard to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, physical and mental disability, pregnancy, ethnicity, genetic information or any other protected categories under applicable federal, state or local laws. This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $231,000 - $347,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program.
