Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Custodial Services Supervisor to oversee custodial operations during the third shift in a busy university environment.

The Supervisor will oversee custodial staff and ensure that assigned areas are clean, safe, organized, and prepared for students, employees, and events the following day. This position will be based primarily in a student-centered facility and will involve routine cleaning oversight as well as special projects, event setups, and floor-care projects.

The ideal candidate will be dependable, hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working independently during an overnight shift.

Responsibilities

● Supervise and provide direction to custodial employees during the third shift.

● Conduct regular inspections to ensure assigned areas meet cleanliness and quality standards.

● Oversee routine cleaning as well as special and project-based cleaning assignments.

● Coordinate floor-care projects, including stripping, waxing, machine cleaning, and other floor maintenance.

● Assist with special events and prepare spaces for the following day.

● Move, arrange, and reset furniture and equipment as needed, including in cafeterias, student areas, and event spaces.

● Ensure classrooms, common areas, dining areas, and other assigned spaces are properly prepared for the next day's activities.

● Monitor the proper use and care of cleaning equipment, supplies, and materials.

● Respond to emergencies, spills, unexpected cleaning needs, and other facility issues.

● Communicate operational issues to management and take initiative to resolve problems.

● Monitor employee attendance, work assignments, and performance.

● Provide training, coaching, and guidance to custodial employees.

● Complete shift reports and other required documentation.

● Work professionally with employees, supervisors, and building personnel.

● Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive work environment.

● Perform other custodial and supervisory duties as assigned.

Qualifications

● High School Diploma or GED required.

● Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, facilities, or related experience.

● Previous supervisory experience preferred.

● Strong knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures, equipment, and floor care.

● Experience with floor machines, stripping, waxing, and detailed cleaning preferred.

● Ability to work independently and make decisions during an overnight shift.

● Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete project work on schedule.

● Professional and dependable with strong attention to detail.

● Basic computer skills and ability to complete shift reports and other documentation.

● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

● Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

● Ability to move throughout assigned buildings and work areas.

● Ability to move furniture and equipment as needed.

● Ability to operate floor-care and custodial equipment.

● Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.

● Ability to perform hands-on cleaning and project work when necessary.
