Lead Bus Driver Concord High School

Job Description Performs semi‑skilled work operating a school bus, transporting students to and from school, activities or events, and related work as assigned. Work is performed under moderate supervision of the Transportation Planner. Qualifications High School diploma or GED preferred. At least 1 year of driving experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 18 years of age. Pay Grade NC05. Valid commercial driver's license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement in the State of North Carolina. Register in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse. Pre‑employment DOT Drug Test, Pre‑employment Criminal/DMV check, Physical Standards Test, and all legal requirements of the NC DMV and Cabarrus County Schools. Clear criminal background check, safe driving record, health certificate, and eligibility for a NC Dept. of Health and Human Services Child Care Criminal Background Check and approval letter if required. Essential Functions Perform pre‑ and post‑trip school bus inspection and report operating and equipment deficiencies. Transport students to and from school, activities, and events. Cleans bus inside and out, including washing as needed, sweeping, and emptying trash. Obey traffic laws and observe safety regulations for school bus operations. Ensure passenger safety, maintain discipline on the bus, and complete disciplinary forms as needed. Conduct periodic emergency evacuation drills. Record mileage and maintain records and reports. Perform related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of operating a school bus and the geography of the district, including street locations, and skill in safe bus operation. Ability to read and write. Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment related to bus operation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents, and the general public. Physical Requirements Occasional exertion up to 10 pounds of force. Regular sitting, speaking, hearing, hand use, and repetitive motions; occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Standard vision requirements and vocal communication for conveying instructions. Visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts while operating vehicles or equipment. Exposure to outdoor weather, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens; may require personal protective equipment. Work could be in a moderately noisy location. Special Requirements Must be 18 years of age. Register in the FMCSA Clearinghouse. Applicable training will be provided. Valid commercial driver's license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement in the State of North Carolina. Pre‑employment DOT Drug Test. Pre‑employment Criminal/DMV check.
