Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Labor & Delivery for a 13‑week contract assignment in Lansing, Michigan. This role is based in an acute care setting, providing essential nursing care to expectant mothers and newborns. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring maternal and fetal well‑being throughout the labor and delivery process, assisting with births, and providing immediate postpartum care. This position requires a compassionate professional capable of delivering high‑quality patient care in a dynamic and often critical environment, while also offering education and support to patients and their families. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings and maternal vital signs, reporting changes to the medical team. Assist physicians during labor, delivery, and surgical procedures such as C‑sections. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and accurate documentation. Perform newborn assessments and provide immediate postpartum care for both mother and infant. Educate patients and families on prenatal care, labor progression, delivery options, pain management, and postpartum recovery. Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies, demonstrating critical thinking and rapid intervention skills. Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records and other required documentation. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum of 1‑2 years of recent experience in a Labor & Delivery specialty setting. Preferred Qualifications Not specified. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in fetal monitoring and interpretation. Competence in labor progression assessment and intervention. Skill in medication administration, including IV insertion and management. Ability to perform comprehensive newborn assessments. Experience with postpartum hemorrhage management.
