Must-Have: Experience in a similar setting. Prefer experience with Magnesium drips.

Description: The unit has 32 postpartum beds with room for 32 babies for couplet care. The facility sees about 350-400 births per month. The nurse-to-patient ratio goal is 1:3 for couplets or 1:6 ratio. Magnesium patients would only be a 1:4 ratio. Rare occasions may allow for a 1:4 ratio with a discharge or twins. Nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include Magnesium and Pitocin per protocols. Charge nurses are free of assignment. CNA and unit clerks are available on this unit. A discharge nurse is present during the day to assist with education. Lactation consultants practice the ABM model. Contracted staff handle hearing screens, photography, car seat safety, and some newborn screenings. A specialist is available 24/7 for emergencies. The facility has anesthesia available around the clock. There are rarely patients on telemetry; some mothers with cardiac history may require continuous monitoring. The charting system utilized is Epic. Nurses have 12-hour shifts and are subjected to a rotating schedule. Weekend and holiday work is expected as needed. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other facilities may occur as assigned patient cases require, and nurses may need to assist across different floors. Scrubs may be of any solid color or print but must be clean and respectable, with closed-toe shoes. Travelers are considered first to float or sit with patients on other floors. Cancellations may occur up to four times during the contract period.
