Teacher - Music

Leach State Date: TBD Reports to: Principal Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website Work Year: 10 months POSITION GOAL: The goal of the Music Teacher is to provide high-quality, accessible, and developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in PreK through age 22 with physical, cognitive, and communication disabilities. The Music Teacher will design and implement individualized music experiences that support each student's cognitive, physical, sensory, social-emotional, communication, and functional development while fostering meaningful participation and enjoyment of music. Instruction will be adapted to meet a wide range of student abilities and needs and may incorporate movement, rhythm, singing, instruments, technology, visual supports, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), sensory-based activities, and other adapted music strategies. The Music Teacher will collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, families, and other members of the educational team to ensure that music instruction aligns with students' individualized needs, IEP goals, accommodations, and instructional programs. The Music Teacher will create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment in which all students are provided meaningful opportunities to participate in music, develop self-expression and communication skills, make choices, interact with others, and experience success. The Music Teacher will also support school-wide activities, performances, celebrations, and community experiences when appropriate, adapting musical activities and expectations to ensure students with significant disabilities can participate to the greatest extent possible. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification as an Music Teacher. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public. Show evidence of knowledge regarding evidence and research-based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc. Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position. Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on the needs of their students. Must be willing to collaborate closely with related service providers to deliver individualized instruction and effectively integrate a variety of assistive technologies, including, but not limited to, AAC devices, switches, and adaptive physical equipment, to support students' unique learning and access needs. Demonstrate the professional skills necessary to collaborate effectively and consistently with paraprofessionals, teachers, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team throughout the school day. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and deliver instruction aligned with the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) using district-approved curriculum. Differentiate music instruction using a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies and methodologies to address students' diverse learning needs, levels of functioning, and preferred learning modalities, with particular attention to appropriate academic scaffolding and alignment with individual IEP goals and accommodations. Implement and monitor evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions, maintain a structured classroom management system, and follow district expectations for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Regularly administer, collect and interpret formal and informal assessment data, to drive instructional decisions and report progress to families and the district. Develop and deliver weekly lesson plans using appropriate resources, technology and instructional strategies, incorporating a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and student inquiry for the purpose of developing student's music skills. Communicate regularly and proactively with families regarding student progress, participate in IEP meetings, and other required meetings and/or conferences. Administer appropriate and required informal and formal assessments based on student needs, State Regulations, and district expectations. Establish and maintain a cooperative and professional relationship with peers, support staff, parents, administration, agency staff and school district staff. Comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and policies: accurately complete required paperwork within designated timelines, utilize district resources (i.e Employee Handbook, District website, Collaborative Agreement, Professional Code of Conduct, Administrative procedures, School District Board Policies, etc.) to maintain professionalism and avoid noncompliance, and cooperate with compliance monitoring and dispute resolution activities. Attend professional development programs, mandated training, and self-selected workshops/conferences, courses, etc. Maintain current certifications (including clock hours via DEEDS), stay current on evidence based instructional strategies and technology and actively engage in required and self- selected professional learning. Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the building principal and/or supervisor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
