Assistant Nurse

Assistant Nurse, Class III Districtwide

Reports To: Building Principal and School Nurse

Job Function: To assist the school nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health service and to aid when required.

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse or LPN
• Ability to work with children
• Demonstrate aptitude for the tasks involved / Proficiency on the District administered test
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Products and other office equipment or software

Requirements:

• Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
• Ability to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.
• Participates in training as required for performance of job. This may include but is not limited to ABA and Safety Care.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with health assessment of the individual pupil with referral, exclusion, and readmission as necessary.
• Provide coverage to district-wide schools based on need.
• Follow District and State policies.
• Conference with community health professionals, parents and school personnel concerning the health needs of students in the absence of the certified school nurse.
• Support individuals with personal health or hygiene concerns.
• Assist with all mandated services.
• According to school policy, administer medication in the absence of the certified School Nurse.
• Monitor and report suspected/actual child abuse.
• Aid with referral needs and follow up.
• Confer with parents and staff as necessary.
• Refer to community agencies as necessary.
• Participate in Child Study meetings when appropriate.
• Assist with in-service education for students and personnel.
• Maintain a safe environment.
• Work with the certified School Nurse with all clerical duties.
• Dispense medications and first aid to students including oral meds, injections or any invasive procedure (i.e., catheterizations, epipens, cleaning wounds, etc.) in the absence of the certified School Nurse.
• Performs other duties attributed to the position as directed by the Building Principal.
• May be required to accumulate a minimum of 20 professional development hours each school year.
• Performs other duties as directed by the Building Principal or School Nurse.

Term of Employment: 195/193 days; Hourly wage per contract

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of the School District's evaluation system of support service personnel.
