NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals is looking for a Interim Director of Nursing at our Mishawaka location. NPH is the national leader in providing medical and neurobehavioral care to patients in acute psychiatric distress. The Interim Director of Nursing functions under the direction of the CEO of the Hospital. Given broad guidance and direction and is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment. Responsible for building a team that exhibits the values of the organization's mission and philosophy, including hiring, coaching, and terminating employees. Assists with the development, interpretation and application of organizational policies, budgets and long range plans. Monitors all services provided by outside clinical contractors. Performs administrative duties of supervision within assigned clinical departments. Responsible for assigned departmental performance improvement and quality initiatives consistent with organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates leadership and supports initiatives undertaken by the Hospital's Leadership and Governing Board.
• Provide supervision, vision and development of growth opportunities for employees:
  • Recruiting and hiring appropriate individuals, based upon strategic plan and related job description.
  • Responsible for interviews, maintaining nursing staff position control.
  • Responsible for working in collaboration with Human Resources and Infection Control to ensure all nursing staff are current with employee health needs.
• Provide on-going performance feedback as well as performs an annual evaluation on all direct reports.
  • Provides mentoring and coaching as needed.
  • Provides discipline as needed.
  • Provides recognition as indicated.
  • Provides opportunity for advancement as indicated.
• Analyzing the skills inventory of supervised employees and planning needed training; rewarding enhanced skills with transfers or promotions.
• Communicate, empathize and lead all employees so that the company vision is achieved.
• Scheduling and conducting periodic staff meetings to bring supervised employees up to date on strategic plans, performance, clinical and/or administrative issues, policies and procedures.
• Manages administrative and financial responsibilities of the nursing department by:
  • Develops a budget for direct report departments on an annual basis, if applicable.
  • Monitors, controls, and reports budget variances as appropriate and applicable.
  • Acquisition and management of capital and durable medical equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares cost/ benefit proposals for capital equipment.
  • Completes management reports in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates Nursing Leadership Team Meetings.
• Ensures patient care needs are met.
  • Responsible for appropriate staffing levels throughout areas of responsibility including staffing patient care unit when appropriate or needed
  • Responsible for policy and procedures that reflect standards of professional care in accordance with standards of care/ practice.
  • Ensures accreditation requirements and regulatory standards are met on an ongoing basis.
  • Analyzes and when necessary, restructures the activities and processes of nursing and other personnel.
  • Reviews charts for documentation compliance on a daily basis.
• Responsible for patient safety, efficiency and suitability of the environment of care.
  • Ensures incident reports, chart audits, all other assigned quality indicators are monitored, and nursing peer review are accomplished through the organizational Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Responsible for provider (physician and other Licensed Independent Practitioner) and patient care satisfaction.
  • May work scheduled shifts or fill in on unit as needed.
• Verifies that the nursing department and other areas of responsibility meet mandated State and federal regulations (ie; The Joint Commission, Indiana State Department of Health and the Division of Mental Health and Addiction by:
  • Supports culture in structural framework(s) needed to embrace requirements
  • Facilitates and gives oversight to the development, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Assures the verification of licenses and certification of professional and support personnel.
• Facilitates and promotes interdepartmental communication, serving as resource person to all staff members throughout the organization

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR an Associate's Degree in Nursing with an additional 5+ years of relevant nursing leadership experience required. A Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice required. BLS, HWC & CPR certifications required and obtained during orientation.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in acute psychiatric, mental health, medical-surgical, or emergency department settings required.
• Minimum of 3 years of nursing management or leadership experience required. Previous experience in addiction or psychiatric care highly preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication skills necessary in order to instruct and comfort patients and their families.
• Maintain effective contacts with a variety of Hospital Personnel.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
