Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Job Description We are a small practice with a loyal client following and a long history in the community. For externs, the work is engaging because we see exotics and have a highly experienced staff to learn from. Our MDVM loves to teach, is a supportive mentor, and works with the local zoo, contributing to our community presence in Plymouth. Environment We offer a collaborative environment for hands‑on learning and valuable experience for any extern. Our culture is supportive, and we treat our clients’ pets as if they were our own. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics, including radiographs, blood work, and other laboratory tests Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures under supervision Manage medical care for patients, including medication administration and follow‑up plans Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Qualifications 3rd or 4th year veterinary students in the clinical portion of their program Interest in veterinary practice and commitment to learning Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend during the externship period.
