Job Summary Operates multiple pieces of large equipment in a responsible, safe and efficient manner. Operates heavy equipment and machinery to accomplish duties of the job. Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:30a-3:00p.m.; on-call as needed. Responsibilities Safe and efficient operation of large equipment. Operate multiple pieces of construction equipment (tractor, front‑end loader, snow‑plows, high‑reach/boom truck, chainsaws, and snow blowers) used in grounds‑related activities such as landscaping, material cleanup, tree and snow removal. Conduct pre‑operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance. Maneuver heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew; verify vehicle position and special loading equipment placement. Perform minor repairs on equipment issues and report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties. Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance. Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling. Operate equipment on roadways, maintaining proper awareness of surroundings. Store and clean machinery at its designated location and complete work reports at the end of each working day. Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of construction equipment. Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures. Assist the Ground Maintenance Specialists by participating in the production, maintenance, and clean‑up of grounds and facilities. Maintain landscaped areas, flower beds, interior plants, habitat and lake maintenance, and greenhouse operations. Maintain fruit tree and orchard production, including pruning trees for proper growth, repair and removal of hazardous trees and limbs. Control growth of unwanted species of weeds and grass by weeding, cultivating, and trimming; identify the need for, apply, maintain, and properly dispose of chemicals pesticide. Operate grounds maintenance equipment, including zero‑turn and large area mowers, chainsaws from the basket of a boom truck; drive Boys Town vehicle as needed. Maintain equipment, including sharpening blades, replacing belts and bearings, and completing tune‑ups. Perform general building maintenance and remove snow, ice, and other debris as needed; utilize plow, loader, blade, blower and shovel. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a diverse range of heavy equipment is required. Previous experience in grounds maintenance or agriculture is required. Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check. On‑call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support as required. Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed. State of Nebraska certified pesticide and herbicide applicator license is required within 90 days of hire. Certified in‑house post hire to operate boom truck, forklift, and front‑end loader. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Physical Requirements Moderate to very heavy physical work, occasionally having to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance and in excess of 100 pounds with assistance. Walking, standing, reaching, bending, digging, and may be required to work at heights of 10 feet or more. The worker is subject to both indoor and outdoor conditions in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees for extended periods of time. Exposure to inclement weather, livestock, dust, allergens, noise, pesticides, and herbicides.
