Engineering Technician II

About the Opportunity The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) Division of the Department of Land Use and Transportation is recruiting for an Engineering Technician II opening. This role performs a variety of tasks related to the design, construction and maintenance of the County’s transportation infrastructure, including traffic‑related request analysis, inspections, data collection, report writing and emergency response. Engineering Technician II must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to track information, conduct analyses, produce reports, explain findings to supervisors and engineers, and engage the public. The position may also require completing inspections of signing and striping work on County roads to confirm compliance with plans and specifications. Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of Civil Engineering, specifically Traffic Engineering and Operations Experience with construction or inspection of infrastructure assets within a government agency Ability to communicate effectively, including working with diverse stakeholders Ability to collect data and prepare complete, accurate reports Ability to work independently, manage field investigations and handle multiple priorities Knowledge of applicable county, state, and federal guidelines related to traffic engineering and traffic control device installation, and ability to apply these to situations Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of responsible experience in road construction, road construction inspection, construction management, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or surveying, with experience in an office or field setting; OR an Associate’s Degree in civil engineering or a related field. Additional Requirements A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
