About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45-19:15 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Prefer a minimum of 2 years recent MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down (PCU) level experience. Must possess a positive attitude with a focus on teamwork for this fast-paced, quick-turnover unit. Description: This unit focuses on ED decompression and enhanced throughput. It is a clinical decision/direct admit unit with a primary goal of receiving admitted patients from the emergency department. Responsibilities include completing the admission assessment, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders. The process reduces overall length of stay and enhances the patient and family experience. The unit cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses; therefore, a well-rounded background is instrumental. Charge Nurse experience or a willingness to consider is appreciated. Minimal bedside procedures are performed due to the unit environment. The unit wears navy blue or white scrubs, or a combination of the two colors, with appropriate jackets or sweaters if needed. The staffing model typically includes 1-2 CNAs based on volume during day and night shifts. Every other weekend is required, with no call responsibilities and assistance during holidays. Floating to other units within skill set is expected. Most travel nurses request extensions, with some having been on assignment for several years. Additional opportunities are available in telemetry units and as transport nurses for higher acuity patients. Telemetry nurses oversee telemetry patients to ensure safety and timely placement. Transport nurses assist with moving patients from the emergency department to specialized inpatient units, enhancing throughput.
