Professor of Practice-Museum Studies

Position Summary The Museum Studies Program at the University of New Mexico seeks a full‑time Professor of Practice in Museum Studies to begin on August 10, 2026. Applicants must have a terminal degree (Master’s, MFA or Ph.D.) in Museum Studies or a related field by June 30, 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students in the Master’s program, and bring a strong record of preparing graduates for careers in the museum profession. Responsibilities Teach courses in person and online at the semester level. Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate curricula in Museum Studies. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, particularly within the Master’s program. Collaborate with Native American heritage and community partners in teaching and research. Minimum Qualifications Terminal degree (Master’s, MFA, or Ph.D.) in Museum Studies or a related discipline, awarded by June 30, 2026. A minimum of three years of professional museum work. Preferred Qualifications Range of work experience in museums or cultural institutions. Record of publication or completed projects with a focus on Native American heritage. Teaching experience at the university or college level, including upper‑division courses and graduate seminars in Museum Studies. Interest and/or experience in mentoring advanced undergraduates and graduate students and building relationships or collaborative projects with Native communities.
