The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care within a high-risk perinatal environment at a Level III facility. This role involves managing labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum patients, ensuring 1:1 care during labor and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The nurse is responsible for patient assessments, fetal monitoring, emergency response, and supporting safe delivery practices. Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant obstetric nursing experience and certifications including BCLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Monitoring.
Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care within a high-risk perinatal environment at a Level III facility. The nurse is responsible for patient assessments, fetal monitoring, emergency response, and supporting safe delivery practices. Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to laboring, antepartum, and postpartum patients in a Level III perinatal unit.
- Perform patient assessments and fetal monitoring using established protocols.
- Manage high-risk obstetric cases and collaborate with providers, CRNAs, surgical techs, and CNAs.
- Ensure 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio during labor and appropriate staffing ratios postpartum and antepartum.
- Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies and assist in operative deliveries and cesarean sections.
- Document patient care accurately using EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate effectively with all team members.
- Adhere to hospital policies including strict SVE (Sterile Vaginal Exam) protocols.
- Support unit operations including triage and patient flow in a busy maternity service environment.
- Active Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum 2 years labor and delivery nursing experience; experience in facilities with 100-200+ deliveries preferred.
- Certifications: BCLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Monitoring.
- Strong clinical assessment and fetal monitoring skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced maternity unit.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience in high-risk perinatal care or Level II/III NICU environments.
- Prior experience in facilities handling 200+ deliveries annually.
- Knowledge of EPIC electronic health records system.
- Weekend and float coverage to postpartum unit required.
- Call is not required for this position.
- Strict adherence to SVE (Sterile Vaginal Exam) hospital policies.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions must be disclosed at time of submission.
- Facility is a Level II Trauma Center with comprehensive maternity services and Level II NICU.
- Scrub color restrictions apply (no reddish-orange permitted).
- Parking costs are covered by the facility.
- 12-hour shifts with guaranteed hours; clinicians may be called off for one 12-hour shift every two weeks.
- Shift assignments include day and night coverage with weekend requirements.
- Staffing ratios: 1:1 during labor, 1:3 for couplets postpartum with CNA support, 1:2-3 in antepartum.
