Plant Operator, Lead

Assistant Shift Supervisor – Water and Wastewater Salary Range $25.13 – $40.46 per hour (FLSA: Nonexempt) Purpose of Classification Serve as the assistant shift supervisor for water and wastewater facilities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements for operation of water treatment, distribution, storage facilities, and/or wastewater collection, lift stations, or treatment facilities. Essential Functions Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned crew or co‑workers; confer with supervisor to obtain direction on work assignments. Organize tasks to complete_CONFIGURE assignments; monitor status of work in progress and inspect completed work. Assist in complex/problem situations, provide technical expertise and training to co‑workers, and report employee issues for disciplinary action and performance evaluations. Perform sampling, monitoring, and testing to meet regulatory compliance; conduct laboratory analysis and ensure proper operation of equipment मु. Assist in routine and unscheduled repairs and maintenance on plant equipment and machinery; conduct weekly checks, rotate equipment Harbor, change and connect chlorine and other specialized equipment, and operate chemical feed and solids processing equipment. Operate load lugging trucks and other plant machinery. Collect potable water and wastewater samples for laboratory analysis of parameters such as pH, turbidity, chlorine levels, fluoride levels, dissolved oxygen, total suspended solids, total volatile solids, and temperature on grab samples; calibrate lab equipment and instruments. Monitor Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for changes that may impact plant processes] Prepare reports, records, and paperwork; enter data into computer systems and respond to customer complaints and telephone calls. Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with OSHA and DeKalb County standards. Assist in training entry‑level operators and lower classification operators (II & III) and participate in continuing education to renew Georgia and DeKalb County certifications. Minimum Qualifications High school diplomaඹ or GED required; four years of experience as a plant operator, including at least two years as a Class II or higher plant operator in a water or wastewater treatment facility; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience looming. Specific License or Certification Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and a valid State of Georgia Class I Water or Wastewater Operator License.
