Java Developer

Salary: $76,000 - 116,000 per year Requirements:

• Strong professional experience developing applications with Java, including Java 21 or a recent Java SDK version
• Solid experience with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework
• Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs, with strong knowledge of JSON and API integration patterns
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with Git-based source control; GitLab is preferred
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines; GitLab CI/CD is preferred
• Practical experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications on AWS
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality work as a contractor
• Preferred: experience with Thymeleaf and AWS services such as Amazon ECS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB
• Preferred: familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools, and professional experience using IntelliJ IDEA
• Preferred: familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor
• Preferred: experience troubleshooting cloud deployments, application logs, build pipelines, and environment issues
• Preferred: understanding of secure coding practices and cloud application security

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java applications using Java SDK 21
• Build and enhance applications with Spring Boot and the broader Spring Framework

• Support smaller web applications built with Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Were hiring a Java Developer Contractor to work with our development team on application enhancements, new features, integrations, and platform improvements. The role supports web applications, backend services, and cloud-based solutions in a modern, cloud-oriented environment. Our technology stack includes Java 21, Spring, Thymeleaf, REST APIs, JSON, AWS, GitLab, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, and IntelliJ IDEA, with exploration of AI-assisted coding tools. This is a hybrid position for a local candidate: work on-site on Tuesdays and remotely the rest of the week. The ideal person can move comfortably between backend development, lightweight front-end work, cloud deployments, and CI/CD workflows, while working independently and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.
