Job Description SHERIDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION Terms of Employment 180‑day contract Salary based on district salary schedule for the position 10 days sick leave per year of employment 3 days personal leave School holidays off work Personal Qualifications Earn at least one of the following: Associates Degree; 60 college credit hours; or pass the Para‑Professional Praxis Exam Pass Arkansas State Police, FBI, and Department of Human Services background checks at your own expense Ability to work well with students of all ages and grade ranges Ability to use a desktop computer Effective communication skills Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher Conduct instructional activities assigned by the teacher; work with individuals, students, or small groups to practice and reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching academic goals and grade‑level standards Primary Job Responsibilities Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under teacher supervision to aid in improving student academic success Assist in classroom management Help supervise students throughout the school day—for example lunchroom, bus, and playground Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment Assist teacher with administrative records and preparation of required reports Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance; keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance Perform other duties as assigned by administration Specific Qualifications and/or Requirements Maintain emotional control under stress and stand or circulate for extended periods of time Read laws, codes, rules, policies, and other printed matter; observe students Hear and understand normal speech levels Communicate clearly in normal conversation Bend, twist, kneel, stoop, run, and crawl as required Reach in all directions Lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds Physical Requirements The normal work environment is a school/classroom environment. Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Intelligence Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions and may require an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and associated programs.
