THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client needs a Mechanical Drafter II who can step in and contribute right away. This role sits at the center of the action, working directly with Project Engineers, Project Managers, vendors, and installation crews to turn project requirements into layouts and drawings that actually get built.

 

This is not a seat for someone still learning the basics. The team wants a drafter who already knows how to read a set of specs, a vendor drawing, or a field redline and turn it into an accurate layout without someone standing over their shoulder. Candidates coming from conveyor systems, automation, or material handling backgrounds will feel at home here fast.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

You will take ownership of equipment layouts and detailed drawings for conveyor and automated material handling projects, working across 2D and 3D platforms. Your work touches every stage of a project: plan views, elevations, sections, equipment details, and the installation drawings that field crews rely on.

 

You will pull together information from architectural, structural, mechanical, and vendor drawings and turn it into layouts that fit real facilities and real constraints. When something does not line up (a clearance issue, an equipment conflict, an access problem) you will catch it before it becomes a field problem, not after.

 

You will coordinate closely with Controls, Electrical, Installation, and outside vendors to keep drawings accurate as projects evolve. Redlines, field conditions, and customer changes are part of the job, and you will manage revisions and drawing priorities across multiple active projects at once.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Three or more years of professional mechanical drafting or equipment layout experience.

 

Demonstrated work developing mechanical layouts for industrial equipment, machinery, automation systems, conveyor systems, material handling systems, or comparable equipment-intensive environments.

 

Advanced AutoCAD skills.

 

3D CAD experience in Inventor, SolidWorks, or a similar platform.

 

Proven ability to build layouts independently from project requirements, equipment specs, vendor drawings, field sketches, and redlines.

 

Comfort reading and interpreting architectural, structural, mechanical, and equipment drawings.

 

A strong grasp of dimensions, elevations, sections, clearances, equipment interfaces, and installation requirements.

 

A track record of spotting dimensional conflicts, equipment interferences, access limitations, and installation issues before they cause trouble.

 

Strong mechanical aptitude, spatial visualization, and an eye for drawing accuracy.

 

The organizational range to manage several projects and shifting priorities at once.

 

 

WHAT SETS A CANDIDATE APART

 

Direct experience with conveyor systems and automated material handling equipment.

 

Background in warehouse automation or systems integration.

 

Hands-on experience laying out conveyor, sortation, scanning, labeling, guarding, platforms, supports, and related equipment.

 

Experience folding vendor-supplied equipment into a larger system layout.

 

Comfort taking and incorporating field measurements.

 

Experience producing installation and as-built drawings.

 

Familiarity with how equipment actually gets fabricated and installed in the field.

 

 

HOW SUCCESS LOOKS IN THIS ROLE

 

Shortly after joining, a successful Mechanical Drafter II in this role will:

 

Own assigned drafting responsibilities without needing close oversight.

 

Develop and revise equipment layouts with limited supervision.

 

Understand vendor equipment information well enough to build it into system layouts correctly the first time.

 

Recognize common equipment, dimensional, and installation conflicts on sight.

 

Produce drawings that Project Engineers and Project Managers can hand off with confidence.

 

Manage revisions and priorities across multiple active projects without dropping the ball.

 

Communicate clearly with the project team whenever more information or clarification is needed.
