Caregiver Job Description

 

The primary function of a Caregiver at True Bloom Care Partners is to assist clients with companionship, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, and transportation, as outlined in each client's Individualized Service Plan. All assignments must be completed within the assigned shift unless extenuating circumstances prevent completion.

Caregivers are expected to embody the PETAL values in every interaction, from the first greeting of the day to the last task of the shift. This is not just what we do; it is how we do it.

PERFORMANCE & ONGOING TRAINING

Training opportunities are available throughout the year and are a required part of your employment. Along with training participation, your annual evaluation will include a review of job performance, adherence to Employee Policies, and demonstrated professionalism.

COMPANIONSHIP

· Provide clients with respectful, warm, and friendly social interaction.

· Assist clients with hobbies, crafts, reading, or writing activities as requested.

· Support clients during social and entertaining activities with appropriate companionship.

MEAL PREPARATION

· Assist with grocery shopping, meal planning, and meal preparation as outlined in the client’s ISP.

MEDICATION REMINDERS

· Hand the client their pre-dosed medications and observe while they take them.

Important: Caregivers may not administer any medications without express consent from a supervisor and formal training by a Registered Nurse.

LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING

Tasks are limited to those outlined below and in the client’s ISP:

· Kitchen: Dishes (1–2 people), clean counters, sweep/vacuum and mop floors, take out trash and recyclables, wipe down oven/stove/microwave, and clean the refrigerator.

· Laundry: Wash and dry clothing and linens using the client’s washer and dryer. Hand-wash items as indicated in the ISP.

· Bathroom: Wipe the tub rim, sinks, toilet, and mirrors; sweep/mop/vacuum floors.

· Living Room: Dust furniture, sweep/mop/vacuum floors, and tidy the area.

· Bedrooms: Make beds, change linens, dust furniture, vacuum floors, and tidy the area.

The following tasks are outside the scope of caregiver duties:

· Ironing clothing

· Moving furniture to vacuum

· Picking up trinkets to dust (use a feather duster or Swiffer only)

· Spot cleaning floors, tile, or curtains

· Cleaning windows, baseboards, or ceiling fans

· Operating steam cleaners, lawn mowers, weed eaters, or power washers

PERSONAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES

Personal Assistance Services include all light housekeeping and companionship duties above, plus direct assistance with a client’s personal grooming and hygiene:

· Bathing and showering assistance

· Dressing and grooming

· Physical movement support and mobility assistance

· Transferring between locations (e.g., bed to chair)

· Exercise support

· Feeding assistance

· Toileting and incontinence care

· Routine care of hair and skin

RN DELEGATION PROGRAM

True Bloom Care Partners operates a formal RN Delegation Program, through which qualified caregivers may perform expanded care tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Participation in this program is voluntary and involves structured training provided by an RN.

· Tasks under the RN Delegation Program are performed only after formal RN-led training and written authorization have been completed.

· Caregivers may not perform any delegated task without documented approval on file.

· All delegated tasks are monitored and reviewed by the supervising RN in accordance with applicable state regulations.

UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS & INFECTION CONTROL

All caregivers are required to observe universal precautions at all times, including proper handwashing protocols and all infection control measures established by True Bloom Care Partners. These standards are in place to protect both caregivers and clients.

OTHER DUTIES AS OUTLINED IN THE CLIENT'S SERVICE PLAN

Additional tasks may be assigned as specifically outlined in a client’s Individualized Service Plan. Any questions regarding scope of duties should be directed to your supervisor prior to the start of the shift.
