HVAC Welder

Pay: $22–$25 per hour

Location: Tampa, FL

Overview

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Welder to fabricate, assemble, and weld components used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role requires strong welding and fabrication skills, the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings, and experience working with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

The HVAC Welder will work in shop, construction, and industrial settings to ensure HVAC systems and components are built to specification while meeting safety, quality, and code requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Welding & Fabrication

• Perform MIG, TIG, stick, arc, and other welding processes to fabricate, join, and repair HVAC-related metal components.
• Cut, shape, grind, and assemble metal parts, including ducts, pipes, frames, and supports.
• Weld components accurately to ensure proper fit, alignment, strength, and durability.

Blueprint & Specification Interpretation

• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
• Follow project specifications and welding procedures to ensure work is completed correctly.

HVAC Installation Support

• Assist with the installation of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, equipment, and related components.
• Ensure welded parts are properly aligned and fitted during installation.

Safety & Quality Assurance

• Follow all safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company safety policies.
• Use required PPE and maintain proper ventilation and fire prevention practices.
• Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and are free of defects.
• Ensure work complies with applicable building codes, HVAC standards, and welding procedures.

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform welding repairs, modifications, and fabrication work on existing HVAC systems.
• Troubleshoot welding-related issues and provide solutions to support efficient system operation.

Material Handling & Preparation

• Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, cutting, grinding, sanding, and fitting surfaces.
• Select appropriate materials, tools, and welding methods based on project requirements.
• Safely handle and store welding materials, equipment, and gases.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with HVAC technicians, project managers, supervisors, and other trades.
• Communicate job progress, issues, and changes in project scope to supervisors.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Welding certification from an accredited institution or trade school required, such as AWS, ASME, or equivalent.

Experience

• 2–4 years of welding experience required, preferably in the HVAC, mechanical, commercial, or industrial construction industry.
• Experience with MIG, TIG, stick, and oxy-acetylene welding.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and related fabrication requirements preferred.

Skills

• Strong welding and fabrication skills with the ability to produce precise, high-quality welds.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of metals and alloys commonly used in HVAC systems, including preparation and welding methods.
• Understanding of OSHA safety standards, welding codes, and HVAC-related code requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and work in tight or confined spaces.
• Comfortable working in shop, outdoor construction, and industrial environments.
• Ability to safely operate welding equipment, hand tools, machinery, and related fabrication tools.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to pass a welding test on SCH 40 carbon steel pipe using MIG welding.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
• Commitment to following all safety procedures, including PPE use, proper ventilation, and fire prevention protocols.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights or weekends, as project demands require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with HVAC ductwork installation and welding in commercial or industrial settings.
• Familiarity with HVAC codes, energy efficiency requirements, and environmental standards.
• Advanced welding certifications, including pipe welding or material-specific certifications such as stainless steel.
