In addition to carrying out daily operations of the office, and developing programs and projects as assigned, the role of an Admissions Counselor often includes extensive travel, group and individual presentations, individual counseling with prospective students and their parents, as well as evaluation and selection of applicants. This person will carry out daily operations of the Office of Admissions and territory management responsibilities. This is a full-time position, likely to include 8-10 weeks of in-person travel to various parts of the United States throughout the year, with potential for some weekend and evening working during the fall and spring.**Job Description:****Key Responsibilities:****Territory Management:*** Serves as the first point of contact for prospective families. Maintains strong ties with these families throughout the duration of the admissions cycle. Uses connections with faculty, staff, and other campus partners to help promote programs and opportunities available to Furman students.* Completes all market research and recruitment in assigned geographical areas. Personal correspondence with students in the region is required. Also coordinates any other activities necessary to the region (including receptions, phone-a-thons, and any other recruitment activities). Completes follow-up with students within 24 hours of meeting.* Completes territorial responsibilities that will encompass the planning of recruiting events, creation of personal travel itineraries and implementing personal recruitment efforts for students within the territory. Maintains territory management reports.* Serves as the primary representative for Furman University to students, parents, college counselors, Furman alumni, and other key constituents in the college search process, within the designated recruiting regions.**Virtual and in-person Recruitment:*** Travels for eight to ten weeks in the fall and as necessary in the spring. Responsible for all planning and preparation for travel. Travel primarily involves visiting high schools, representing Furman at college fairs, hosting families at receptions and individual meetings with students.* Hosts virtual recruiting events such as virtual high school visits, college fairs, individual meetings with students and their families, etc. when not able to physically connect with prospective students in-person. This is likely to encompass a total of three to four weeks of programming throughout the fall and spring.* Develops healthy working relationships with all members of the admissions team. This individual will do as much as possible to ensure a positive working environment. Be willing to aid with projects and tasks as necessary.* Admissions Counselors are expected to assist in the planning of on-campus and virtual recruiting events, as well as participate in all recruitment programming.**Application Review:*** Reads and evaluates applications for admission. This process begins in late November and continues through mid-March.* Maintains confidentiality and approaches all review with sound judgment and respect.**Relationship Management:*** Develops strong working relationships with high school counselors, representatives of community-based organizations, independent educational consultants, Furman alumni and other external constituencies. Maintains open communication with college counselors during the application review process.**Public Relations:*** Conducts group and individual information sessions with prospective students and their families on a daily basis. This work includes counseling candidates for admission. The Admissions Counselor is willing to assist with tours, should additional guides be needed.* Monitors the Hartness Admissions Center as needed and welcomes guests to campus. This includes routinely covering the front desk, checking families in for campus tours and providing good customer service for all visitors.**Performs Other Duties as Assigned:*** Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically present in this description. The intent of this job classification description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions in this classification and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.**Qualifications and Requirements:*** Bachelor’s degree required.* Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.* Bilingual, desirable.* Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills, as this role requires frequently presenting in front of audiences of various size, formats, and demographics.* Enthusiasm for creating cross-campus collaboration that fosters a supportive experience for students from the prospective student stage to enrollment.* Ability to manage time, remain organized, and promptly correspond with various constituency groups.* Self-motivated, enjoys finding solutions to new challenges, and can thrive working independently, as well as with a team.* The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organization skills, dependability, excellent verbal and written communication skills.**Responsibilities:**Daily contact with members of own work unit and immediate supervisor to plan, coordinate, problem solve, present information, and make suggestions related to mutual goals. Frequent contact with members of other departments, the general public, prospective students, parents, counselors, and alumni to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.**Responsibility for Final Decisions:**Responsible for own work. May assist or instruct others doing similar work, including student workers. Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.**Reports To: Senior Assistant Director of Admissions**Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.**Work Conditions:*** Work is largely performed under usual office conditions. The Office of Admissions is a student-facing office, which requires in-person work. Opportunities to work from home may be permissible at certain times throughout the year.* This role does require some evening and weekend work throughout the year, most often during the fall and spring recruiting and yield seasons.* Maintains frequent communication with direct supervisor on the development of all pertinent activities, including recruitment strategies, trends, and proposals for adjustments to recruitment strategies.* Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals. #J-18808-Ljbffr Furman University
