Head of Technology
IEC Property Services Corporation
Job Description
Job Description
Company
Interstate Equities is a vertically integrated real estate investment and management firm in California. Their approach is analytical, requiring studied examination. They thoughtfully refine then systematically execute to deliver target returns. To Interstate Equities Corporation, integrity is essential.
Their niche is finding dated multifamily apartment properties and transforming them into affordable, updated, boutique-style assets. They are uniquely positioned in their markets, having neighborhood-level expertise that they’ve gained from 168 asset realizations since 1981.
Their operations are unified and entirely in- house, from investments and construction to leasing and property management. They are hands-on at every step.
Since 1981, Interstate Equities has been investing in, managing, and transforming multifamily apartments across California and the Seattle region. They deliver thoughtfully designed living environments to their residents and superior, risk-adjusted returns to their investors. They are analytical, capable, and reliable.
Interstate Equities (“IEC”) is seeking a highly capable, hands-on technology leader to build and lead the firm’s internal technology function. This newly created role is designed for a senior individual contributor who combines strategic thinking with a strong willingness to execute directly. The successful candidate will serve as a player-coach—someone who can assess needs, prioritize opportunities, implement practical solutions, and elevate the company’s technology capabilities in a lean, high-accountability environment.
Position
This role will be responsible for overseeing IEC’s day-to-day technology ecosystem, enhancing cybersecurity and governance practices, optimizing the firm’s application stack, and identifying opportunities to drive efficiency through automation and AI-enabled workflows. The selected leader will build upon the strong technology and AI stack currently in place, and work to integrate third parties to enable innovation with data and AI. The position will also manage key external technology vendors, including the Managed Services Provider (MSP), ensuring high- quality service delivery while maximizing internal effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is energized by building from the ground up, enjoys solving problems directly, and understands how to right-size technology solutions for a private real estate investment manager. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future technology strategy of a respected and growing investment platform while delivering meaningful, hands-on impact from day one.
Position Description
- Serve as the firm’s primary internal technology leader, owning technology priorities, execution, and continuous improvement across the organization;
- Evaluate the current technology environment, identify gaps and inefficiencies, and implement practical solutions that improve business operations and user experience;
- Manage and optimize the relationship with the external Managed Services Provider (MSP) and other third-party technology vendors;
- Lead day-to-day administration, enhancement, and integration of business systems, software platforms, and cloud-based tools;
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes through AI tools, workflow automation platforms, and agentic solutions that improve efficiency and reduce administrative burden;
- Design, configure, implement, and optimize modern AI tools and productivity technologies across business functions;
- Partner with business leaders to understand operational needs and translate them into scalable technology solutions;
- Establish and maintain a practical IT governance framework, including policies, standards, controls, and documentation appropriate for the size and complexity of the firm;
- Develop an AI and Data governance framework addressing approved use cases, vendor evaluation, data handling, privacy, and responsible adoption standards;
- Build foundational cybersecurity practices including access controls, incident response procedures, acceptable use standards, and vendor risk management processes;
- Ensure compliance with applicable privacy requirements, including California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) considerations and related data handling practices;
- Oversee core infrastructure performance, endpoint management, user support coordination, business continuity readiness, and systems reliability through internal coordination and vendor leverage;
- Support technology due diligence, integration planning, and execution for new business initiatives, acquisitions, or strategic projects as needed;
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and recommend practical innovations that create measurable business value;
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 10–15 years of progressive technology experience, including meaningful hands-on responsibility across IT operations, systems administration, business applications, cybersecurity, or digital transformation;
- Proven success operating in lean environments where individual ownership, execution, and adaptability are essential;
- Experience managing external technology vendors, managed service providers, and software partners;
- Demonstrated ability to implement automation tools, AI solutions, workflow platforms, or business productivity technologies with measurable results;
- Strong working knowledge of SaaS ecosystems, cloud platforms, cybersecurity fundamentals, data governance, and systems integration;
- Experience creating policies, procedures, and IT, AI, and Data governance frameworks in growing or evolving organizations;
- Prior experience in real estate investment management, private equity, professional services, or similarly entrepreneurial environments is preferred;
- Familiarity with platforms such as Yardi, AI Platforms, CRM systems, and investment operations tools is beneficial;
- Strong understanding of privacy and data protection considerations, including practical application of CCPA principles;
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred;
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship;
- Ability to work on-site in San Francisco, Los Altos, Brea, or San Diego, California.

- Strategic thinker who is equally comfortable executing directly;
- Strong business judgment and prioritization skills;

- Ability to simplify complexity and implement pragmatic solutions;
- Excellent vendor management and relationship skills;
