HVAC Technician

Supports Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative, Inc.'s (Rayburn) Operations Department functions by performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems across Rayburn facilities. This position focuses on ensuring reliable operation, energy efficiency, and preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment while collaborating with internal departments and external service providers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities / Knowledge

• Installs, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC systems and related equipment, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical controls, motors, compressors and building automation systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
• Diagnoses mechanical and electrical issues using testing equipment, technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Monitors and maintains facility climate control systems, thermostats, and energy management systems to support operational efficiency.
• Responds to service requests and emergency repair needs in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintains accurate maintenance logs, work orders, service records, and inventory documentation.
• Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and internal departments regarding repairs, installations, inspections, and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Ensures compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA regulations, EPA refrigerant handling requirements, and company safety policies and procedures.
• Identifies opportunities for equipment upgrades, system improvements, preventative maintenance enhancements, and energy efficiency initiatives.
• Safely operates HVAC diagnostic tools, hand tools, power tools, vehicles, lifts, and other maintenance equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Assists with facility improvement and renovation projects involving HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Maintains adequate inventory of tools, equipment, parts and supplies necessary to support daily operations.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and effectively communicate with employees, contractors, vendors and management.
• Participates in after-hours work as required to support facility operations and maintain uninterrupted service.

Key Accountabilities

• Complies with all policies, procedures, and confidentiality agreements effective as a result of employment with Rayburn.
• Shares information with Rayburn management and staff, contractors, and other third parties in a timely manner as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or executive management.

Job Specifications / Skills Required

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Two-year degree in HVAC or Trade School Diploma preferred
• EPA 608 Universal Certification required
• NATE Certification preferred
• TDLR Preferred

Experience:

• 5+ years HVAC experience required

Skills:

• Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in HVAC design, refrigeration, plumbing, appliance repair, and boiler systems.
• Ability to read schematics and technical diagrams accurately.
• Mechanical aptitude with experience in maintenance tasks.
• Additional skills such as welding or mechanic experience are advantageous but not required.
• Demonstrates initiative, ownership, and strong communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Physical Demands:

· Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb and work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.

· Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly, and heavier items with assistance as needed.

· Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, rooftops, and elevated surfaces while performing maintenance and repair activities.

· Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, controls, and computers with dexterity and precision.

· Ability to visually inspect equipment, read gauges and technical documents, and distinguish colors associated with wiring and controls.

· Ability to hear and respond to equipment alarms, mechanical sounds, and verbal communication in noisy environments.

· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions and perform the physical requirements of the position.

· Ability to safely operate company vehicles, tools, and maintenance equipment.

· Ability to wear and properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.
