Overview Position: Mechanic (Heavy Equipment) Location: Indio, CA, US Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $26.00 – $30.00 Hourly Southwest Boulder & Stone is a family owned and operated landscape rock and supply company based in Southern California. We specialize in low‑maintenance, sustainable, and drought‑tolerant landscaping and building materials. Our retail locations include Fallbrook, Escondido, Pacific Beach, Chula Vista, Fullerton, Palm Springs, Indio, and Gardena. Essential Job Functions Daily review of incoming service repair orders Heavy equipment experience including planetary gear repair, pivot pin and bearing removal and installation, under‑carriage repair, cutting edge removal and installation, hard facing, and service of all systems Examine fuel regulators, emission controls system, and timing systems to ensure proper repair Check batteries, lubricate parts and change oil as needed to prevent engine failure Inspect hydraulic systems, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, mechanical and electrical components Diagnose hydraulic systems, replace hydraulic lines, replace packing and reseal hydraulic rams Perform engine and transmission repairs (water pump, belts, radiator, air compressor, injectors, fuel pump, clutch, drive line, common rail fuel system, differential, emission system repairs) Inspect and repair forklifts Perform repairs in compliance with DOT regulations Record services and repairs to maintain accurate vehicle records Follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, and keep shop equipment operational Notify Mechanic Supervisor when inventory stock is low Escalate shop equipment repair issues to Mechanic Supervisor Perform 90‑day DOT inspections on trucks and trailers and equipment safety inspections Travel to various company sites across southern California for on‑site repairs, roadside repairs, and truck scale repairs Prior field experience with service trucks, problem‑solving, and safety‑first approach Perform preventative maintenance (PM’s) as needed Certified in air brake and hydraulic brake systems for heavy‑duty trucks and equipment Experience with welding, fabrication and cutting (MIG weld, stick weld) Operate cutting torch, air arc, and lance Electrical repairs and diagnostics including charging system, starting system, lights, and interpretation of electrical schematics Diagnose and repair A/C systems, vacuum and pressure test for leaks, and properly charge systems Other duties as assigned Job Requirements High school diploma, GED, or equivalent Vocational training in Diesel Mechanics or equivalent experience Certification in air brake and hydraulic brake systems In‑depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operations Detail orientation and superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment At least 3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic using diagnostic software (Autel, Jal Test, factory scan tools) Valid California driver’s license with air brake endorsement Proficiency in operating forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other equipment safely Knowledge of DOT inspections Prior welding experience is a plus Ability to operate MIG, stick welder, and cutting torch Basic computer skills Benefits Health benefits, vacation accrual, sick pay, paid holidays, and generous 401(k) program Medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, and accident plans Employer covers 85% of employee‑only medical coverage After 1 year of employment, employer provides up to 5% 401(k) match Full‑time benefit‑eligible position Physical Requirements Walking – Constantly (C) Crawling – Occasionally (O) Reaching Out – Frequently (F) Standing – Frequently (F) Bending – Frequently (F) Stooping – Occasionally (O) Reaching Up – Frequently (F) Speaking – Frequently (F) Squatting – Frequently (F) Seeing – Constantly (C) Twisting – Frequently (F) Hearing – Constantly (C) Kneeling – Occasionally (O) Driving – Frequently (F) Grasping – Constantly (C) Wrist Deviation (side to side) – Constantly (C) Noise Exposure – Frequently (F) Working Outdoors – Frequently (F) Hand/Wrist Repetitions (Up & Down) – Constantly (C) Exposure to extreme weather conditions – Constantly (C) Handling/Fingering – Frequently (F) Wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) – Constantly (C) Lift / Carry – Pulling / Pushing – 10–25 lbs – Frequently (F) 26–35 lbs – Frequently (F) 36–50 lbs – Frequently (F) 50+ lbs – Occasionally (O) Candidates may be subject to pre‑employment drug testing and/or background screening. #J-18808-Ljbffr
