Staff Software Engineer, Data Cloud Memorystore Location: Kirkland, WA, USA Compensation: US$207,000 – 301,000 + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits Benefits Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance 401(k) with company match Paid Time Off: 20 days of vacation per year, accruing 6.15 hours per pay period for the first five years Sick Time: 40 hours per year (69 hours per year for Seattle) including 5 discretionary sick days per instance Maternity Leave (Short‑Term Disability + Baby Bonding): 28‑30 weeks Baby Bonding Leave: 18 weeks Paid holidays: 13 days per year Job Summary Google’s Cloud Memorystore team builds highly‑available, high‑performance cache‑as‑a‑service for Google Cloud Platform customers, delivering services such as Valkey, Redis, and Memcached on a secure, scalable infrastructure. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the development of long‑term technical strategy, drive architecture and design, and guide a distributed engineering team in delivering functionality to large, demanding customers. You will partner closely with Product Managers to define product direction and work with multiple GCP teams to ensure alignment and integration. Responsibilities Provide technical leadership on high‑impact projects and influence architecture decisions. Set and execute the long‑term technical roadmap for the Memorystore services. Coach and collaborate with a distributed team of engineers to deliver quality software solutions. Align cross‑functional teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines. Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large‑scale software solutions. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of programming experience in C++. 5 years of experience building large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks. 3 years of experience with software design and architecture. Experience with Redis, Memcached or similar caching/database systems. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams. 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross‑functional projects.
