Job Description
Academic Tutor Wanted: High School Senior or College Student, Key Biscayne
We are a Key Biscayne family looking for a bright, responsible, and motivated local student to tutor our three children in person at our home. We are especially interested in a high school senior (12th grade) or a college student who excels academically, enjoys teaching, and can do more than supervise homework.
The Students
- 8th grader working at a 9th-grade level in several subjects. Focus: advanced math, problem solving, and early SAT preparation. We want someone who can spot gaps, follow a structured weekly plan, and challenge him beyond regular schoolwork. He takes an SAT-style assessment every six months to track progress.
- 6th grader. Focus: math, history, writing, and study skills, with extra challenge where she is ready for it.
- 4th grader. Focus: age-appropriate math, reading, and writing support and enrichment.
Schedule
- Two hours per day, Monday through Friday (about 10 hours per week), after school
- Can be reduced to three or four days per week for an outstanding candidate
- In person, in Key Biscayne
Pay
- 50-$100 per hour
What We Are Looking For
- High school senior or college student, ideally living in or near Key Biscayne
- Strong grades, especially in math (algebra, geometry, and SAT-level math); a strong SAT/PSAT score or advanced coursework (AP, IB, AICE, dual enrollment) is a big plus
- Some tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience (peer tutoring, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, camp counselor, or similar)
- Patient, punctual, reliable, and good with kids of different ages
- Able to keep a simple log of what was covered and how each child is progressing
- Willing to provide references and complete a background check
- Applicants under 18 will need a parent's approval
To Apply, Please Send
- A short note about yourself, your school, and your weekly availability
- Your academic highlights (GPA, courses, SAT/PSAT/ACT scores if you are comfortable sharing)
- Any tutoring or mentoring experience
- Two references (a teacher, counselor, coach, or a family you have tutored for)
- A few sentences on how you would work with each of the three children
