Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. Campus Maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the University through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair. Position Summary Maintenance, installation and repair of plumbing systems and components on existing building systems and components. Key Responsibilities A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Ability to acquire a back flow certification within the first year of employment. May also be asked to earn CPO certification (Certified Pool Operator) within first year of employment as/if needed. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Management Preferences Ability to perform plumbing trade at the journey level; working knowledge of State building and plumbing codes; ability to read and comprehend complex blueprints and plumbing schematics. Capable of demonstrating Journey‑level competencies in maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of facility components. Has the ability to read and interpret blueprints and plumbing schematics and has a working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, regulations and best practices of the trade. Experience working on a college campus, city/county school system, military base or municipas/county/state funded maintenance and/or public works department is preferred. Ability to follow instructions, partner with others as/if needed and work independently on work assignments with minimal supervision when needed and willingness to respond to campus emergencies when called.
