Job Title Sr. Physician Assistant – Inpatient BMT (Position #140242) Position Details Department: Cancer Center, Worksite: Jacobs Medical Center, Appointment Type: Career (90% full‑time), Union: HX Contract, Openings: 2 Work Schedule Days, 12‑hour shifts, Monday‑Sunday Summary Under the direction of the BMT attending physician and APP Supervisor, the PA provides primary medical management for oncology/BMT patients, leading by example with a professional image and leadership core competencies. The PA serves as a liaison within the BMT Program to promote consistent medical management of patients across the health care continuum, collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team. The PA performs specialized procedures such as bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, and skin biopsy; presents patient cases during daily rounds and weekly BMT clinical meetings; provides patient/family and staff education; supports the development and revision of BMT divisional policies and procedures; participates in research; and engages in community outreach and networking with community physicians and health professionals. The PA may provide care to BMT patients in the outpatient center at the Moores Cancer Center and will develop and expand role responsibilities as patient and system needs change. Responsibilities Primary medical management of oncology/BMT patients Perform bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, skin biopsy, and other procedures Present patient cases during daily rounds and BMT clinical meetings Provide education to patients, families, and staff Support development and revision of BMT policies and procedures Participate in research and community outreach activities Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and act as liaison within the BMT program May care for BMT patients in the outpatient Moores Cancer Center Minimum Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program Valid California PA license Current NCCPA certification Valid BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications; commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire Minimum one (1) year recent experience as a licensed PA in oncology, BMT, or adult critical care Thorough knowledge of BMT and CAR‑T process, hematological blood cancers, pathology, expected outcomes, and lab results Ability to address medical and psychosocial needs of a cancer patient population Professionalism and strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in interdisciplinary teams Comfortable in teaching settings and willing to conduct community outreach Preferred Qualifications One to two (1–2) years of experience as a PA in inpatient Hem/Onc/BMT Knowledge of chemotherapy administration and common blood‑marrow transplant medications Experience in quality improvement initiatives Experience in clinical trials and ability to identify potential trial patients Special Conditions Must be willing to work varied hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and locations as needed by the 24‑hour Medical Center Subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical Must obtain and maintain UCSD Medical Staff privileges during employment Clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two (2) years Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $162,530 – $214,104 (prorated for less than 100% appointment), Hourly Equivalent: $77.84 – $102.54 EEO and Equal Opportunity Statement The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
