Summary

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Project Engineer is an entry-level construction professional responsible for supporting project execution and field operations on commercial and industrial construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.

The Project Engineer serves as a key member of the General Contractor project team Responsibilities include project coordination, document management, subcontractor communication, scheduling support, procurement activities, and jobsite progress tracking. Through hands-on involvement in all phases of construction, this position provides practical experience in project execution, field operations, and construction management.

Career Path: This position is designed as a developmental role within the Operations team and offers a structured path toward advancement into Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, or other construction leadership positions.

Additional Information

This position requires jobsite interaction with field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. This employee must be willing to relocate to the project area for the duration of the build (e.g. 6 months to 2 years). 

Responsibilities

•Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination and execution.

•Support the management of submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), shop drawings, and project documentation.

•Track project schedules, milestones, and key deliverables.

•Assist with procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.

•Maintain organized project files, records, reports, and correspondence.

•Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting notes and action items.

•Coordinate communication between office staff, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.

•Monitor and track project costs, commitments, and change orders.

•Support quality control activities and project closeout documentation.

•Conduct jobsite visits to observe construction progress and verify work completion.

•Assist with project reporting, status updates, and project forecasting.

•Promote and support compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

•Develop a strong understanding of field operations, construction sequencing, and project management best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

•Basic understanding of construction processes and the project lifecycle.

•Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

•Strong organizational and time-management skills.

•Effective verbal and written communication skills.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

•Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

•Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

•Willingness to learn project management and construction management software systems.

•Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Recommended Education

Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Construction Science, or a related field.

Recommended Work Experience

Internship, co-op, or entry-level experience in construction, project coordination, or field operations.

Experience working for a General Contractor or subcontractor in a commercial or industrial construction environment.

Physical Requirements

•Ability to walk active construction sites and traverse uneven terrain.

•Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access various areas of a construction project.

•Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds occasionally.

•Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on jobsites.
