Engineer, Civil – Department of Fish and Wildlife Salary: $6,488.00 – $12,152.00 per Month 12‑Month Limited Term, full‑time; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. Location: West Sacramento field office – on‑site work up to two days per week; telework possible one day per week. Job requires statewide travel and occasional air travel. Job Description and Duties Design, plan, and coordinate civil engineering projects for wildlife, hatcheries, and ecological areas. Tasks include: Prepare engineering calculations, details, and specifications for construction and maintenance of buildings, roadways, grading, drainage, water supply, and disposal systems. Develop and review drawings, estimates, and cost analyses for statewide projects. Assess existing structures and infrastructure, recommending improvements or replacements. Use state‑of‑the‑art computer programs and surveying equipment. Collaborate with contractors and facility staff in the field. Working Conditions Periodic statewide travel, occasional air travel, and overnight lodging on some trips. Valid California driver’s license required. Access to attics, crawl spaces, and structures via stairs, slopes, or ladders. Work in adverse weather conditions (extreme heat or cold) following safety procedures. Remote areas may lack reliable cellular service; alternate transportation is not feasible. Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for the Engineer, Civil classification under California civil service regulations. Valid California driver’s license and ability to travel statewide. Approved civil engineering credentials as per state requirements. Desirable Qualifications Excellent interpersonal, writing, computer, organizational, analytical, and oral presentation skills. Experience working with contractors and facility staff on construction‑related problems. Possession of a California Civil Engineer license.
