About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to lead a transformative repositioning of the organization and advance its national narrative. The CCO will be responsible for reshaping how the organization is perceived by various stakeholders, including the field, funders, policymakers, media, and the public. This role demands a strategic leader with a proven track record in communications, public affairs, and a deep understanding of how to influence and elevate an organization's visibility. The ideal candidate will have the ability to distill complex information into clear and emotionally resonant messages, with a focus on driving systemic change in the child care sector. Key priorities for the CCO include redefining the brand, owning the national narrative, and building influence through a comprehensive influence strategy. The successful candidate will be a builder and a storyteller, capable of leading a high-performing communications team and integrating communication strategies with the organization's mission and programs. They should be a trusted strategic advisor, with the ability to work closely with the CEO and executive team to elevate the organization's and the CEO's voice. The role requires a leader who is deeply relational, collaborative, and can build influence through trust and credibility. A background in early childhood or child care is strongly preferred, and the candidate should be prepared to demonstrate a clear vision for the first year, including a communications roadmap and success metrics. The CCO will also be expected to engage in proactive and reactive communications, including crisis management, and to ensure that all external communications reflect a consistent and compelling narrative.
