Job Qualifications

Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, a valid Alaska Coaching Certification. Verification of the following approved training courses is required: Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, First Aid/Health & Safety, and Protecting Students from Abuse. Candidates should be experienced coaches with knowledge of game rules and techniques. The coach must be able to serve as a team leader, coordinating with the broader academic and co-curricular programs within the school.

Job Description

The basketball coach is responsible for implementing a coaching philosophy aligned with the values and expectations of high school athletics. Responsibilities include:

• Train and develop athletes' skills to prepare them for high school interscholastic competition
• Manage program inventory, ordering equipment, budgeting, and conducting program evaluations
• Model sportsmanship, enforcing team discipline, and supporting student well-being
• Ensure alignment with KPBSD policies and philosophies as outlined in the co-curricular handbook
• Reporting to and working under the direct supervision of the building administrator

Certification Requirements

Candidates must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching course, the Alaska State Component, and approved courses in Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, First Aid/Health & Safety, and Protecting Students from Abuse.

All certifications and verifications must be completed on or before the first contract day.
