Compensation Compensation: $21.30 hourly, payable bi‑weekly. Supervisor Supervisor: Corps Officers. Scope of Position Responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals as needed for Corps and shelter programming. Duties & Responsibilities Plan nutritious meals using donated, commodity, or purchased food. Handle the purchasing of food as needed. Supervise volunteers as kitchen helpers and servers. Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to ensure Public Health Department regulations are followed. Maintain the kitchen in a safe manner. Ensure proper storage of food and supplies. Work with Shelter Supervisor to plan meals for special events (e.g., Thanksgiving, Mother’s Day) and monthly menus. Collaborate with the Social Services Director to determine product use for the program. Gather/purchase grab‑and‑go breakfast items, snacks, and easy‑to‑make lunch items for the shelter program. Perform any other duties related to the running of the meal program that may be assigned. Education & Experience Understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, and practices. Experience as a cook, in menu planning, purchasing, and food service. Ability to accurately figure the costs of meals. Ability to work independently with good judgment. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to grab, push, pull, and lift items weighing up to 45 lbs. Must be able to withstand warmer‑than‑average temperatures. Must be able to read and comprehend the English language. Must be able to communicate effectively and coordinate efforts with others. Working Conditions Work is primarily conducted in a sheltered environment, with occasional outdoor duties. The indoor setting ensures a consistent and predictable work environment, free from inclement weather. Some discomfort may be related to noise, dust, or dirt. For occasional outdoor tasks, please dress according to the weather forecast. Work Schedule / Location This position is located at our shelter in Everett, Washington.
