Associate In-House Counsel

A well-established real estate and property management organization is seeking an In-House Attorney to serve as the primary legal resource for landlord-tenant matters across a large residential portfolio. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine courtroom advocacy, legal counseling, compliance oversight, and business partnership in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.The successful candidate will work closely with property management and leadership teams to provide practical legal guidance, mitigate risk, and support day-to-day operations while managing a significant volume of housing-related legal matters.ResponsibilitiesManage landlord-tenant legal matters, including evictions, lease enforcement actions, unlawful detainer proceedings, rent escrow cases, resident disputes, and related litigation.Represent the organization in housing court, mediation proceedings, and administrative hearings.Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.Advise property management professionals and company leadership on landlord-tenant issues, resident conflicts, lease compliance, and operational decisions.Review and update lease templates, notices, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.Provide guidance regarding Fair Housing laws and other regulatory requirements impacting residential property operations.Partner with leadership to identify and mitigate legal risks, develop operational best practices, and support strategic initiatives.Serve as a trusted resource for escalated resident concerns and complex legal issues.Manage caseloads efficiently across multiple jurisdictions while balancing the legal and business needs of the organization.Assist with special projects and other legal initiatives as needed.
