Their duties include calibrating and manipulating ultrasound equipment to conduct appointments, taking pictures or videos of potential abnormalities and discreetly notifying medical personnel if they identify something concerningEssential FunctionsUnderstands and adheres to Burke Rehabilitation Radiology performance standards, policies and behaviorsPerforms clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinationsUses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and imagesUses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findingsAnalyses; sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physicianCoordinates work schedule with Radiology Supervisor to assure workload coverageAssumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer’s careAssists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department which includes patient scheduleMaintains a daily log of patients seen/completes examsEstablishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitalsPerforms all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physicianMaintains clean equipment and reports equipment failures to the Radiology SupervisorPractices Standard Precautions.
