Analytical Chemist - Power Transformer Oil & Materials Analysis

Job Summary At Siemens Energy, you’ll play a crucial role in safeguarding the reliability of power systems by analyzing transformer insulating oil. The analytical chemist will use advanced laboratory testing, interpret data, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support the performance and longevity of high‑voltage equipment. Responsibilities Perform advanced laboratory testing on transformer insulating oils and materials (e.g., DGA, moisture, dielectric properties, DP, oil compatibility) to assess asset condition. Analyze and interpret test results to support condition assessments, corrective actions, and root‑cause investigations. Develop, maintain, and continuously improve laboratory procedures in compliance with ASTM, IEEE, and IEC standards. Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate, reliable, and repeatable data. Collaborate with field engineers, asset managers, and cross‑functional teams to correlate laboratory and operational data and support product and technology development. Prepare clear technical reports, maintain accurate documentation, and promote laboratory safety and quality. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry or a related field with 5+ years of experience in transformer oil analysis and diagnostics within the power transformer industry. Strong understanding of insulating oil properties, aging, and degradation mechanisms. Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and data analysis tools. Knowledge of applicable standards (ASTM D3612, IEEE C57.104/C57.130, IEC 60567). Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a strong safety focus. Proficiency in English (written and verbal). Relocation to Charlotte, NC is required if not already located; relocation assistance provided. Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current employer‑sponsored work authorization. Those with current U.S. work authorization may be considered for a transfer.
