Job Details Job Location: Federal Detention Unit - Memphis, TN 38103 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage: None Job Shift: Any Job Category: Nursing Services The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within assigned areas utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients. What you will do Provides nursing care according to medical regimen and nursing interventions appropriate for the patients' conditions and established standards, policies, and procedures including the care of the ambulatory practice patient. Initiates assessment based on the patient's presenting problems or needs, the physician's medical diagnosis and the functional health framework upon visit. Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports. Ensures consents necessary for treatment/procedure have been signed and required identification procedures have been carried out. Determines nursing diagnosis and priorities for care with special consideration for patient teaching, discharge planning, and growth & development needs. Determines which standards of care and practice apply. Documents assessment, including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments. Demonstrates knowledge, technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills to provide care, manage clinical competency and meet age‑specific patient needs within the unit. Completes ongoing assessments according to outpatient and nursing policy, updating nursing diagnoses, re‑prioritizing care, and involving family or significant individuals in assessment activities. Assesses, plans and implements care of assigned patients; performs therapeutic nursing interventions ordered by physician; follows primary and population‑specific standards; considers knowledge gained from initial and ongoing assessment; adheres to policies and procedures; addresses risk management, infection control and patient safety; includes history and physical assessment, medication administration, immunizations, pre‑procedure prep, pain control, assistance during procedures, monitoring vital signs, corrective action for adverse symptoms, patient referrals, and patient education. Documents care based on standards and clinical priorities: assessment findings, updated priorities, therapeutic interventions with emphasis on education, and patient responses toward outcomes. Responds to medical emergencies: initiates or assists with CPR/BLS as required. Provides patient/family teaching on disease/condition; develops and implements teaching outlines, objectives, content, strategies, and evaluation. Maintains patient medical records; completes charting, records activities, and retrieves data via computer systems. Collaborates with patient/family/hospital staff, upholding iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. Provides instruction, assigns and supervises LPN and other support personnel; supports training and orientation for new staff and students during patient care. Transports monitored patients, specimens, equipment and supplies between areas. Collaborates with forensic team and security to ensure a safe environment for custody patients. Completes required continuous training and education: attends staff meetings, mandatory in‑services, additional education; contributes to unit scope review; develops indicators, thresholds, study methods, and data collection; addresses performance improvement initiatives; maintains required competencies. Maintains clean, orderly, safe environment; follows policies, compliance/quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
