Registered Nurse - Oncology Infusion

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Oncology Infusion for a 13-week contract assignment in Grand Junction, Colorado. This role is integral to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to oncology patients receiving various infusion therapies, including chemotherapy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering treatments, conducting thorough patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and providing essential education to patients and their families. This position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe therapeutic environment and collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer chemotherapy and other intravenous fluids via various access devices, including peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, identify actual or potential health problems, and evaluate patient responses to care.
• Develop, implement, and revise individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team.
• Provide extensive patient and family education regarding treatment plans, post-discharge care, medication management, and self-care strategies.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and infection-controlled patient care environment.
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocols, physician orders, and professional standards.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
• Utilize knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions, initiating appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
• Provide guidance and direction to other healthcare team members, delegating tasks as appropriate to ensure quality patient care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to positively affect patient and system outcomes.
• Orient and educate new staff on nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
• Maintain professional competency through ongoing education and staying current with advances in oncology nursing care.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in oncology or infusion nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in chemotherapy administration and management of associated side effects.
• Expertise in IV fluid administration and management of various vascular access devices (e.g., PICCs, central lines).
• Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent patient and family education abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
• Knowledge of infection control principles and safety precautions.
