Registered Nurse | Peak Behavioral Health | Santa Teresa, New Mexico About the Job The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients, supervising care treatment and services of patient care provided by LPNs, CNAs and other staff on assigned unit and shift. The role involves developing, implementing, and evaluating an individual plan of care for each patient, assessment and re‑assessment of patients and communicating appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team. The RN reports patient concerns and changes in condition to supervisor and/or physician promptly. Roles and Responsibilities Provides and coordinates care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of patient, develops and implements nursing care plans, maintains medical records and educates patients and families about health conditions while ensuring safety. Assesses patient status on an ongoing basis, documents pertinent information. Ensures nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and completes initial plan upon admission. Accurately takes physician’s orders (verbal or via telephone) and documents them; ensures orders are legible and transcribed per policy. Administers medications per orders, records accurate count of controlled substances, adjusts medications under provider supervision and monitors lab results for compliance. Notifies physician of significant status changes such as detox difficulties, medical emergencies, or medication response issues. Supervises medication administration ensuring patient identification and documents/report effects of scheduled and PRN medications. Maintains accountability of medication administration, recording, control, and security, including narcotics. Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed. Collaborates with treatment team (nurses, therapists, program managers, physicians) regarding patient care and participates in unit activities such as therapy groups, family meetings, staffing and unit meetings. Provides education to patients, families, and coworkers about medication use/maintenance, side effects, patient rights, and other essential topics. Monitors patient acuity, census, staffing needs and arranges for coverage as needed. Ensures thorough documentation for all patients on each shift; completes patient assignment sheets daily and performs tasks as assigned. Gives a thorough report to oncoming staff, supervisors, and physicians. Provides coverage for emergency services as needed. Education / Experience / Skill Requirements Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing. One or more years of nursing experience within a clinical area of service provided by the facility preferred. Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred. Licenses / Designations / Certifications Valid current RN license from the state or a compact state, where applicable. Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred. CPR and de‑escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire). First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
