Job Description

The Heat Treat Process Engineer oversees heat treat and pyrometry operations to ensure strict compliance with AMS 2750 and aerospace customer specifications. This role manages furnace performance, drives continuous improvement, and supports material testing and new part qualifications within a collaborative, end-to-end manufacturing environment. The engineer serves as a key technical resource, partnering closely with quality, maintenance, and operations teams to maintain audit readiness and deliver reliable, compliant processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage all pyrometry activities to ensure full compliance with AMS 2750 requirements.
• Ensure heat treat processes, oven cycles, and part requirements consistently meet aerospace and customer specifications.
• Maintain furnace calibration, including thermocouples and related equipment, to ensure reliable and repeatable performance.
• Plan, run, and manage Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS) and related pyrometry tests in accordance with AMS 2750.
• Support material testing activities to validate heat treat performance and meet specification requirements.
• Lead and support new part qualifications, including review and interpretation of aerospace and customer specifications.
• Review, interpret, and implement revisions to industry and customer specifications, ensuring timely updates to processes and documentation.
• Drive process improvements in heat treat and pyrometry operations, focusing on quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
• Develop and deliver training on heat treat, pyrometry, and compliance practices to operations and support teams.
• Maintain a high state of audit readiness by ensuring documentation, records, and processes meet applicable standards and quality system requirements.
• Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to heat treat equipment and processes.
• Support quality systems and compliance efforts by participating in audits, investigations, and corrective actions related to heat treat and pyrometry.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing operation, focusing on heat treat process robustness and reliability.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in heat treat and pyrometry operations.
• Strong knowledge of AMS 2750, including practical experience running and managing Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS).
• Hands-on experience with thermocouples, calibration practices, and furnace performance monitoring.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting aerospace, customer, and industry specifications related to heat treat and pyrometry.
• Experience working within quality systems and compliance frameworks in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot heat treat and pyrometry issues and implement effective corrective actions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across quality, maintenance, and operations teams.
• Proven continuous improvement mindset, with experience identifying and implementing process improvements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in investment casting or aerospace manufacturing environments.
• Background in material testing and interpretation of test results.
• Familiarity with aerospace quality and compliance standards.
• Ability to train and mentor others on heat treat and pyrometry processes.
• Comfort working in a smaller engineering organization where contributions are highly visible and impactful.

Work Environment

This role operates within a full end-to-end manufacturing facility where the complete process, from raw material through final product, takes place under one roof. Engineers have the opportunity to observe and influence the entire manufacturing flow, including heat treat operations and related processes. The environment is highly collaborative and team-oriented, with a close-knit group of approximately 13 product and process engineers who work together and support one another. The position offers a high level of visibility and impact, as the Heat Treat Process Engineer owns and improves critical processes that support heat treat compliance, specifications, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a Permanent position based out of Willoughby, OH.

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
