Highway Foreman 1 (Oberlin Maintenance)

Job Title
This position supervises a crew of personnel and manages assigned work activities in the Oberlin Maintenance Unit (D07 Maintenance Section/U580) and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment. NOTE: Experience in any combination of the qualifying fields will be accepted.
Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Supervises the Mobile Equipment Operators performing maintenance to the highways and bridges.
- Prepares daily labor and equipment report. Orders materials daily.
- Guides and instructs assigned personnel to see that Highway Standards are met.
- Conducts routine administration meetings and training.
- Works emergencies at night.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
The incumbent may be required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain the following licensing:
- Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements
- Random drug testing is required
- Computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties
- Night-time operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours
- Lifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty by a permanent DOTD employee, or Job Appointment
Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
