Data Center Technician - United States - Reston - On-site

About the Role

Join our team as a Data Center Technician in Reston, United States . This is an onsite, contract/freelance, dispatch-based position where you'll support critical infrastructure at data center facilities in and around the Reston area.

Compensation & Work Setup

Hourly contract/freelance position

  • Paid for actual hours worked on each assignment

  • Assignments may range from a few hours to longer shifts depending on client requirements

  • No guaranteed 8-hour workday or fixed number of hours per week

  • Hourly rate will be discussed based on experience and assignment requirements

Work Schedule

  • On-demand / dispatch-based

  • Assignment schedules vary based on client requirements

  • Some assignments may require short-notice availability

  • Nights and weekends may be required depending on the assignment

  • Technicians should be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision onsite

  • Please note: This is not a traditional full-time position. Assignments and schedules vary based on client demand.

Work Authorization

  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States for these contract assignments.

  • Visa or work-permit sponsorship is not provided.

  • Candidates must already have the appropriate work authorization and should not require employer sponsorship now or in the future .

  • Candidates may be asked to confirm their work authorization during the hiring process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain server and network equipment

  • Perform structured cabling, including copper and fiber optic

  • Execute hardware deployments, replacements, and decommissions

  • Perform onsite troubleshooting and hardware break/fix

  • Rack, stack, de-rack, and relocate equipment as required

  • Perform power cycling and basic equipment checks

  • Follow MOPs, SOPs, safety procedures, and client requirements

  • Maintain accurate documentation, tickets, photos, and asset records

  • Coordinate with remote engineering, NOC, operations, and client teams

  • Support planned maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure changes

  • Work independently onsite and escalate issues when required

  • Data center or IT infrastructure experience

  • Server hardware and networking knowledge

  • Reliable and professional with strong communication

  • Proximity to local data center facilities

  • Flexible schedule for on-call/emergency work
