Duties & Responsibilities: Seeking a highly motivated laboratory technician with experience inelectrophysiology to support Alzheimer’s-related research focusedon neuronal function and circuit activity. Responsibilities includepreparing experimental materials, performing and assisting withelectrophysiological recordings, maintaining laboratory equipment,and organizing experimental data. Candidate should have strongtechnical, organizational, and communication skills, along withexperience in patch clamp electrophysiology, data analysis, andgeneral laboratory procedures. Core Responsibilities: Preparing and maintaining brain slice or cell culture experiments,operating electrophysiology recording systems, and assisting withwhole-cell patch clamp or extracellular recording procedures.Responsibilities include preparing solutions and reagents,maintaining laboratory equipment, collecting and organizingexperimental data, and supporting analysis. Responsibilities willalso include assistance with animal handling, histology, andgeneral laboratory organization to ensure efficient day-to-dayresearch operations. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Experience with acute and organotypic brain slice electrophysiologyincluding heterologous expression systems used for whole-cell patchclamp electrophysiology (i.e. primary cell culture and/orstably-transfected cell lines). Demonstrated ability to work inand foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civilitywith a population of faculty, staff, and students from allbackgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staffmember at VCU. Preferred Qualifications Electrophysiology experience including prior hands-on experiencewith single-channel, whole-cell patch clamp, extracellularrecordings, and related electrophysiological techniques in brainslices or cultured neurons. Candidates will be expected to havefamiliarity with data acquisition and analysis software, such aspClamp, Clampfit, MATLAB, or Python, as well as experiencepreparing ACSF/internal solutions and maintaining electrophysiologyequipment. Additional desirable qualifications include strongorganizational and communication skills, experience with rodenthandling and basic histological techniques, and the ability to workindependently while contributing effectively to a collaborativeresearch environment.
