Job No: 540160 Work Type: Full Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Education/Training/Instructional Design, Office/Administrative/Fiscal Support, Counseling/Community Outreach/Social Work Department: 04011000 - SL-DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER Job Title Accessibility Specialist Responsibilities Conduct initial appointments with students to identify access barriers in academic environments; coordinate reasonable accommodations in collaboration with students, faculty, and DRC staff; maintain records by documenting communication with DRC students. Orient students to the process of receiving classroom and testing accommodations, and inform them of campus and community resources. Provide ongoing support via follow-up appointments, emails, and calls as requested; serve a caseload of approximately 800 students with disabilities. Communicate with faculty regarding complex accommodations or concerns about DRC-registered students’ well‑being or ability to succeed. Serve as a resource for students, parents, faculty, staff, and service agencies/providers; provide advocacy support and address concerns as needed. Maintain current knowledge of federal, state laws, and regulations in disability services; pursue self‑directed learning on national trends and best practices to promote equal access and reduce stigma. Serve on departmental, divisional, and university‑wide committees and task forces; assist in the Testing Office as needed. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field of expertise (such as higher education, special education, rehabilitation counseling, social work, school psychology, occupational therapy) and four years of appropriate experience; or bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least five years of related and practical experience. Experience: Working with students with physical, sensory, psychological, or learning disabilities; developing, coordinating, and/or implementing care plans for individuals with disabilities or medical/health needs. Knowledge: Proficiency with Windows‑based computers and Microsoft Office. Skills: Outstanding time management and organizational skills; strong student support services skills; effective professional written and oral communication skills. Abilities: None noted. Physical Qualifications: None. Other Qualifications: Strong work ethic. Work Schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM. Evening and/or weekend work may be required, especially during peak testing times. One Saturday in Fall for final exams. One Saturday in Spring for final exams.
