School Psychologist - Special Education

POSITION DESCRIPTION The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem‑solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem‑solving meetings, designing systems, programs, and services that maximize students' social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS Fully licensed to serve as a school psychologist; Knowledge of special education rules and regulations; Experience in working with students who manifest a wide range of abilities. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to implement and instruct the established Grosse Pointe Curriculum, including culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, such as historical or other information about cultures that have a significant impact on the world, nation, or community. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor. Experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting. Collects data and provides systematic observations for students experiencing emotional, learning, or attention problems in the classroom. Conducts extensive student psychological evaluations and reevaluations. Interprets psychological data to Multi‑Disciplinary Teams, Individual Education Planning Teams, teachers, professionals, and parents. Provides interventions and makes recommendations to assist high‑risk students in the classroom. Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to independently and accurately implement the requirements of the IDEA and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE). Ability to work effectively on a team with a variety of other staff members from various disciplines, as well as parents. Outstanding evaluation/diagnostic skills, particularly in the area of learning disabilities, emotional impairments, autism spectrum disorders, and cognitive impairments. Strength in behavioral assessments and intervention planning. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time. Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs. Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor. COMPENSATION Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long‑term disability insurance.
