Overview of the Physician Role
In your capacity as a Primary Care Physician, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes fellow physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support personnel. Together, you will provide comprehensive and coordinated care to veterans. Proficiency in computer skills is crucial, as our organization employs a fully computerized system for documentation, order entry, and consultation requests.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage care for a designated panel of outpatients as assigned by our organization.

• Assess and treat both acute and chronic health issues for scheduled and walk-in patients at the clinic.

• Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations.

• Ensure comprehensive documentation, including patient history, examination findings, diagnoses, care plans, and follow-up actions.

• Facilitate appropriate patient close-outs, ensuring clear documentation of subsequent care steps.

• Provide patients with updated medication lists and appointment schedules at the time of close-out.

• Perform office procedures within your approved privileges.

• Prescribe medications as necessary.

• Order routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests; interpret initial results and communicate findings to patients.

• Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and special tests.

• Screen patients to assess the need for hospitalization.

• Act as a preceptor for residents and medical students in the clinic environment.
