Maintenance Mechanic - 2nd Shift

Position Overview As a Maintenance Mechanic at Smithfield, you will perform day‑to‑day preventive maintenance and repair tasks to keep production lines running smoothly. You will maintain hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems, assist in troubleshooting, and support the plant’s safe and efficient operation. Key Responsibilities Conduct daily preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on plant machinery to keep operations running. Maintain production lines in top mechanical condition to minimize downtime. Set up, inspect visually, and test machinery to ensure proper operation; listen for unusual sounds or malfunctions. Dismantle malfunctioning machinery, replace or repair faulty parts, and restore equipment to full functionality. Clean, lubricate, and maintain key machinery components such as bearings, gears, and shafts. Assist production and quality teams with troubleshooting or repairs as needed. Help maintain the physical structure of the plant; assist with overall maintenance tasks for a clean and safe environment. Follow all safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Qualifications High school diploma or GED with 1+ year of related experience, or 4 years of direct industrial mechanical maintenance experience; a vocational diploma, technical diploma, or associate degree is preferred. Experience in general maintenance, hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, and basic welding. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with all levels of personnel and contractors. Proficiency operating forklift, genie lift, scissor lift, or other powered industrial trucks. Ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, and interpret equipment manuals. Follow oral and written instructions accurately. Willingness to relocate if required (relocation package available). Compensation & Benefits Competitive starting pay: $27.75 - $37.75 per hour . $1 per hour shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift.
