About The Milken Institute’s events and programmatic activities The Milken Institute’s events and programmatic activities involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500+ participants from around the world, featuring more than 900+ speakers throughout 200+ sessions over the course of the event. About FasterCures Based in Washington, DC, FasterCures is a globally focused, publicly supported, nonpartisan and nonprofit think tank, whose mission is to save lives, by saving time. FasterCures is focused on cutting through the roadblocks that slow medical progress in order to speed up and improve the medical research system. About The Position Core responsibilities of the person in this position will be to support programmatic activities by providing a variety of logistical and coordination assistance, specifically FasterCures’ programs related to building the capacity of patient organizations to support biomedical research, and to building the discipline of patient engagement in medical research. They will also contribute to research and assist in the drafting of a variety of written products such as issue briefs and white papers. Topics may fall broadly within the fields of scientific advances, clinical research conduct, federal policy, health equity, and patient engagement and advocacy. Associates are expected to have strong attention to detail and be highly organized. Responsibilities Provide logistical and administrative support to the team and its programmatic activities. Conduct research on topics that relate to FasterCures’ core programmatic areas and policy priorities. Synthesize findings to inform initial drafts of presentations, summaries, comment letters, papers, etc. Track developments related to the biomedical innovation ecosystem from the government, private, philanthropic, and academic settings. Assist with FasterCures and Milken Institute events, including by providing content and logistical support. Support communications staff in the framing of externally facing material. Other duties as assigned. We’re Looking For Professionals Who Are excellent writers, analytical, creative and rigorous thinkers: Detail oriented and flexible problem solver. Can synthesize diverse streams of information and switch comfortably between academic and real-world thinking. Strong writer and communicator with ability to clearly convey key themes and ideas to a variety of audiences. Have a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset: Flexible, proactive, and comfortable with ambiguity. Comfortable with proposing an approach upfront while constantly refining along the way. Team players: Collaborate well with multidisciplinary teams, comfortable taking initiative when necessary as well as following directions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required Research experience required 3 years minimum of relevant work experience Familiarity with biomedical research and innovation topics and the relevant players High competence with technology and/or experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (including Microsoft Office 365 and Teams) Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and is proactiveStrong communication and organization skills Strong critical thinking and analytical skills Working Conditions & Travel Requirements This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Washington, DC office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
