Job Title: CNC Machinist / Programmer

Job Description

This role focuses on CNC machining and programming using Mastercam, including the setup and operation of mill and lathe CNC machines in a fast-paced production environment. The position requires precise work within very small tolerances, routine machine maintenance, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Over time, the successful candidate will be groomed to take on increased responsibility in the shop and will report to the general manager.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components and knives used in production machinery and cutlery.
• Program CNC machines using Mastercam, including creating, modifying, and optimizing programs for efficient and accurate machining.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to ensure parts are manufactured to exact specifications and tight tolerances.
• Work consistently within very small tolerances to meet stringent quality standards for parts shipped worldwide.
• Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment and related machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and meet daily production quotas.
• Follow established processes, safety procedures, and quality control guidelines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with team members across the shop, including areas with CNC machines, lasers, presses, grinding, and shipping/receiving.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and workflow.
• Develop skills and leadership capabilities with the potential to help run the shop in the future under the guidance of the general manager.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with CNC machining, including mills and/or lathes.
• Proficiency in Mastercam programming for CNC machines.
• Ability to set up CNC mills and lathes, including tooling, fixturing, and machine offsets.
• Experience with basic CNC programming and editing at the machine control.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Demonstrated capability to work within very small tolerances and maintain high quality standards.
• Experience performing routine maintenance on CNC machinery.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment and meeting daily production quotas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with multiple types of production machinery such as lasers, presses, and grinding equipment.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and established processes accurately.
• Interest in taking on increased responsibility over time, including potential shop leadership.

Work Environment

The role is based in a medium-sized industrial machine shop with a well-organized layout: CNC machines are located on the east side of the building, laser and press equipment is in the center, grinding machines are on the west side, and shipping and receiving is near the main entrance. Parts of the shop have tight quarters and feature newer CNC machines, offering exposure to modern manufacturing technology. Standard shifts run Monday through Friday, either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with consistent hours and overtime available. The dress code consists of practical work attire, including jeans, t-shirt, closed-toe shoes, and face masks as required for safety and cleanliness in the shop environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
