FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC ENTRANCE EXAM

The City of Twinsburg is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This a full-time, classified, union, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position. Firefighter/Paramedics work 24 hour shifts followed by 48 hours off work with Kelly days.


Compensation: The starting annual probationary compensation rate in 2026 is $76,320.00 annually plus benefits. The top pay range in 2026 is $93,770 annually. Wages and benefits once hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic are determined by a collective bargaining agreement. Firefighter/Medics receive a training bonus and may receive paramedic certification pay. There are opportunities for overtime and longevity pay (with five years or more of service, added to hourly pay) with continued employment.

Testing:
Candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM Exam by 11:55 p.m. on November 1st, 2026 to be considered for the position. The test opens on September 27, 2026.

• Additional credit: A maximum of 15% additional credit is available to those achieving a passing score of 70%. • IMPORTANT: Applicants do not need a Certification of Firefighter's Physical Agility to take the written test, but MUST provide proof of such Certification at time of conditional job offer as follows:
  1. Certification of Firefighter's Physical Agility Test from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), Auburn Career Center or Stark State or other facility that offers the same Firefighter's Physical Agility Test - passing time of seven (7) minutes or less Certification must be less than twelve (12) months old at time of conditional job offer.

Minimum requirements include:

• Eighteen (18) years of age and a U.S. Citizen;
• Valid Ohio Drivers License and a good driving history;
• No Felony, Domestic Violence or Sex Crime Convictions;
• No Crimes against a person or Property Crimes within five (5) years;
• No Minor Misdemeanor Crimes within one (1) year (excluding traffic);
• Must pass a Civil Service Entrance Examination followed by interviews and a background check.
• Applicants who receive a conditional job offer must meet all medical and physical requirements required by the Twinsburg Civil Service Commission and the Twinsburg Fire Department including a pre-employment drug screen (which includes marijuana/THC) and medical and psychological assessments.
• Current State of Ohio Firefighter II Certification and Paramedic Certification at time of appointment.

Working Conditions:
Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, grasp, handle or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear and smell, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work with bright, flashing lights.


Employee will be exposed to hazards, including, but not limited to, toxic agents, smoke, bodily fluids, dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise, and odors. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Working conditions are typically quiet but may be loud at an emergency scene. Must be able to work varied shifts, hours, and locations, including weekends and holidays.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responds to fire and medical emergency situations; provides emergency medical care and fire suppression services; assists with fire prevention in the fire district.
• Responds to HAZMAT incidents.
• Maintains department vehicle and equipment readiness and maintenance, assists with department cleanliness and maintenance.
• Assists with fire inspections and re-inspections of buildings and businesses.
• Maintains a level of physical fitness to safely perform emergency rescue, medical care and fire suppression responsibilities.
• Operates fire apparatus or other vehicles in an emergency mode with emergency lights and sirens.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Supplemental Information
ADDITIONAL CREDIT: A maximum of 15% additional credit is available to those achieving a passing score of 70%. City of Twinsburg permanent, full-time employees and their eligible dependents are offered a comprehensive health plan including emergency accident care, inpatient hospitalization, surgical, diagnostic services, outpatient services and prescription drug coverage. Employees may choose between a HSA or PPO plan or receive an opt-out incentive. Permanent, full-time employees and their eligible dependents are also eligible for dental, vision and life insurance, an employee assistance program and a Wellness Program. Full-time employees may be paid for up to four (4) hours per year for cancer screening procedures.


Full-time employees may also qualify for paid time off benefits such as two personal days after six months of employment, paid vacation, holiday pay, and sick leave. Other types of leaves that may be available include leave for jury duty, on the job injuries, military service and bereavement.

Full-time employees are offered a variety of optional benefits such as additional life insurance for themselves and their families, pet insurance, short term disability insurance, critical illness insurance, accident insurance and hospital indemnity insurance.


Full-time employees may qualify for educational reimbursement, up to $5,000.00 per academic year.


Non-safety force employees are members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). Safety force employees are members of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund (OP&F).

Longevity is available for employees with five (5) or more years of service with the City of Twinsburg.

Depending on the position held, some employees qualify for a uniform/clothing/technology allowance, shift differential or training pay.


Full-time employees may receive a single membership to the City's Fitness Center and may purchase family memberships at a discount rate.
